Cruïlla Oil Production. Cap de Creus
The project inserts a vertical olive oil production facility within the rugged landscape of Cap de Creus, overlooking Cap Norfeu and the Bay of Jóncols. Conceived as a compact volume embedded in the mountain, the building minimizes its footprint to preserve the surrounding olive fields and reinforce the agricultural character of the site.
Cruïlla brings together the entire production cycle cultivation, harvesting, extraction, storage, research, and public program within a single vertical structure. Industrial areas, laboratories, residences, retail spaces, and a restaurant are stacked and interconnected, transforming production into a continuous spatial experience.
The building is conceived as a carved stone mass. Crater-like openings pierce the volume, filtering natural light into the interior and generating a controlled interplay of light and shadow. At its core, an underground cellar is illuminated through a central patio that draws soft zenithal light from above, creating a calm and atmospheric heart to the industrial process.
The spatial organization follows the logic of oil production, using split levels and elevated platforms to optimize workflow and gravity-assisted movement. Load-bearing walls structure the building, integrating enclosed wet areas as stabilizing cores that define both structural balance and façade openings.
Design, strategy, program, and structure operate as a single system a compact vertical landscape where architecture and production become inseparable.
