Devezas Ceramic Factory Renovation Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal
The project reclaims the abandoned Devezas ceramic factory (1865) as a co-working and co-living complex, transforming architectural and industrial ruin into a productive and inhabitable system. The intervention is based on the preservation of the two main historic volumes, reinforced and reconnected through a sequence of articulated platforms that resolve the site’s 6.5-meter slope and organize circulation, uses, and structure.
The ground level is conceived as a flexible production space, hosting ceramic workshops, lavender-based essential oil production, and exhibition areas, reactivating the spirit of the former factory. Upper levels combine housing and workspaces, integrating living and coworking environments. Lavender colonizes the site, roofs, and inner courtyard, creating a sensory landscape that connects production, memory, and contemporary use while respecting the industrial soul of the place.
