Museo Jaume Plensa. Barcelona
The project transforms the former IMAX cinema into a museum dedicated to the work of sculptor Jaume Plensa, preserving the building’s original opacity and its role in Barcelona’s maritime skyline. The complex is organized around the existing tower, housing three levels of exhibition spaces, and a new access volume that guides visitors toward the museum’s core.
Inside, the building becomes a carved-out container filled with soft north light from pyramid skylights, creating a calm and introspective atmosphere. Irregular interior balconies offer multiple viewpoints of the artworks, echoing Plensa’s poetic exploration of silence and inner reflection.
The visitor journey is conceived as a gradual transition from city to interior, culminating in a central space where light, structure, and art come together to offer a contemplative and immersive experience.
